Q When you hear the name Jack Abramoff what are the first words that come to mind
Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.): “Nothing.” Blank? “Blank.”
Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.): “Scandal.” Anything else? “That’s bad enough, isn’t it?”
Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.): “Unfortunate and disappointing.”
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.): “I actually don’t hear it. Fraud, criminality, but I think that has all been resolved.”
Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.): “Uh, nothing.” [Laughter.]
Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.): “Criminal.”
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.): “I don’t play that game. That is just not something I want to do. I work on the Indian Affairs Committee, and we looked into Jack Abramoff.”
Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.): “I never met him. Who is this guy, and why does he wear all those baseball caps? I must not be important because I haven’t had the pleasure. I’m just glad I don’t know him.”
Sen. Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.): “I say he’s a guy who broke the law, and he’s paying the price.”
