Political TV shows score major Emmy nods
{mosads}”Homeland” stars Claire Danes and Damian Lewis will compete for Best Actress in a Drama and Best Actor in a Drama for their roles as CIA agent Carrie Mathison and former Congressman Nicholas Brody.
Robin Wright and Kevin Spacey will compete in those same categories for “House of Cards,” the Netflix drama in which Spacey portrays a House majority whip with Oval Office ambitions and Wright plays his equally ambitious wife.
And actress Kerry Washington, a prominent Obama supporter, received a Best Actress nod for her role as a Washington fixer in “Scandal.”
Meanwhile, Julia Louis-Dreyfus was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role as Vice President Selina Meyer in “Veep.”
And Sigourney Weaver was nominated for her Hillary Clinton-like role in “Political Animals,” a USA Today miniseries in which Weaver played a former first lady turned secretary of State who was contemplating a White House run.

The Emmy Awards will be handed out on Sept. 22 in a ceremony that airs live on CBS.
