Possession of marijuana — June 22 — On the afternoon of this Friday, a U.S. Capitol Police officer was dispatched to the cafeteria of the Library of Congress’s Madison Building for a report of a suspect smoking. Upon arrival, the officer detected an odor consistent with the smell of burning marijuana. The officer located the suspect, who then consented to a search of his backpack. The officer discovered what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette that later tested positive for THC, the active component of marijuana. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Fugitive from justice, carrying a pistol without a license — June 26 — On the afternoon of this Tuesday, a Capitol Police officer near Seward Square observed a male with a shoulder holster containing a black pistol exit his vehicle. Upon approach, the officer also observed a female passenger seated in the vehicle. The officer ordered the male suspect to place the holster with the gun on his cruiser, and the suspect complied. A background check of the female passenger revealed she had an active warrant for a charge of failure to appear in court. Both suspects were arrested and taken to police headquarters.

{mosads}Driving while intoxicated — June 27 -— Early on the morning of this Wednesday, a Capitol Police officer observed a suspect passed out in the driver’s side of her vehicle while stopped at a traffic light near Capitol South Metro Station. A strong odor of alcohol emanated from the suspect’s breath. Due to numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Assault with a deadly weapon —  June 28 — On the morning of this Thursday, a Capitol Police officer responded to a report of a stolen vehicle near the Botanic Garden. Upon arrival, the officer observed the vehicle swerve toward a Metropolitan Police Department officer who attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle then sped off, crashing into a parked vehicle near Eastern Market Metro station. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was later apprehended and taken into custody, along with a passenger in the vehicle. Both suspects were transported to Howard University Hospital for treatment of injuries. Upon release, they were taken to police headquarters for processing. Further investigation revealed the driver had a warrant for failure to appear in court and did not possess a valid driving permit.

Assault on a police officer — July 2 — On the afternoon of this Monday, a Capitol Police officer observed a suspect traveling northbound near the Capitol Reflecting Pool on a moped with no license plate. 

The officer conducted a traffic stop, ordering the suspect to turn around and place his hands behind his back. The suspect placed his hands in front of his body and tried to pull away while yelling, “No.” Two officers were able to handcuff the suspect. A background check revealed the suspect had no valid D.C. driver’s license. The suspect was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Unregistered firearm — July 4 — On the evening of this Wednesday, two Capitol Police officers observed a vehicle traveling eastbound near Lower Senate Park, towing a trailer with an obstructed rear license plate and broken rear brake lights. They conducted a traffic stop, and the suspect indicated he had an antique shotgun and a bucket of knives located behind the driver’s seat. Officers searched the vehicle, recovering a 12-gauge shotgun as well as a clear sandwich bag filled with a green leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana. The suspect was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing.

Driving while intoxicated — July 8 — On the morning of this Sunday, a Capitol Police officer observed a vehicle speeding near Union Station. The officer then observed the vehicle stop at a green light and remain there for one light cycle. The suspect then made a right turn from the left lane. A traffic stop was conducted, at which time the suspect pulled her vehicle over into oncoming traffic lanes, coming to a stop at the left curb. The officer detected an odor of alcohol emanating from the suspect. Due to numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters.

Urinating in public — July 12 — On the morning of this Thursday, a Capitol Police officer observed a suspect urinating on a tree two blocks west of Union Station. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.

Possession of PCP  — July 14 — On the afternoon of this Saturday, a Capitol Police officer discovered a suspect lying in the bushes near Lower Senate Park. The suspect stated he had fallen off a wall and was injured. Drug paraphernalia and a liquid consistent with PCP were found in the suspect’s possession. A background check also revealed a bench warrant within the District. The suspect was transported to Howard University Hospital for treatment and then taken to police headquarters for processing.

Driving while intoxicated — July 15 — Early on the morning of this Sunday, a Capitol Police officer observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way down a one-way street near Federal Center Metro Station. The officer then observed the vehicle turn a complete circle at an intersection and then proceed to drive up an exit ramp leading from I-395 S. The officer immediately initiated a traffic stop, pulling the vehicle over halfway down the exit ramp facing the wrong direction. The officer detected an odor of alcohol upon approaching the vehicle. Due to numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.

Driving while intoxicated  — July 20 — Early on the morning of this Friday, a Capitol Police officer observed a suspect traveling southbound near the Capitol Reflecting Pool without a driver’s-side tire. In a traffic stop, the officer detected an odor of alcohol on the suspect’s breath. The suspect’s eyes were also bloodshot and his speech was slurred. Due to numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Driving while intoxicated — July 21 — Early on the morning of this Saturday, a Capitol Police officer was dispatched to an intersection near the Botanic Garden to assist a second officer with a vehicle that had entered a section of road closed for construction. The vehicle failed to follow posted signs and the officer’s directions and had attempted to drive through the barricades. The second officer responded to the scene and detected an odor of alcohol emanating from the suspect. Due to numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was arrested and taken to police headquarters.
