A Capitol Police officer was allegedly assaulted after trying to revive an unconscious man in a Library of Congress restroom.

It’s just another story from the Capitol Police files, compiled from the weekly arrest reports produced by Capitol Hill’s police.

Fugitive from justice — June 3 — A U.S. Capitol Police officer observed a suspect sitting on a park bench in the upper Senate Park with what appeared to be an open container of alcohol. The officer approached the suspect but found the container was empty. However, a background check revealed an active warrant for a parole violation in Wisconsin. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Assault on a police officer — May 31 — An officer responding to a call from a restroom in the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress found an unconscious suspect on the floor with a syringe beside his arm. The officer was unable to revive the suspect but called the fire officials, who were able to awaken the man. He then assaulted the officer and was placed under arrest and transported to the hospital for evaluation. A search of the individual revealed numerous bags containing a white/tan substance and other items of drug paraphernalia. Upon release from the hospital, the suspect was transported to police headquarters for processing.

Concealed deadly weapon — May 30 — A plainclothes officer observed a vehicle illegally parked on Maryland Avenue SW. Upon inspection, the officer noticed numerous weapons in plain view. A suspect was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Operating after suspension — May 29 — An officer observed a taxi waiting for fares outside the Senate office buildings on the 100 block of Constitution Avenue. When advised that he could not park in that area, the taxi driver drove away but did not leave the 100 block before parking again. A background check revealed the driver’s permit was suspended, and the driver was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Possession of marijuana — May 28 — After noticing a vehicle parked illegally on Pennsylvania Avenue, an officer observed a gun lockbox in the back seat in plain view. The owner of the vehicle was then identified and gave consent for a search, which resulted in the officer finding various prohibited weapons, ammunition and a BB gun. The suspect was placed under arrest, transported to police headquarters and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a BB gun in public space, possession of unregistered ammunition and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Driving under the influence — May 27 — An officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound on North Capitol Street drift back and forth between lanes. After conducting a traffic stop, the officer detected alcohol on the subject’s breath. The driver failed a field sobriety test and, due to numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Possession of a prohibited weapon — May 25 — An officer saw a woman remove an object from her purse and place it in the ivy outside the north side of the Capitol Visitor Center. The object was identified as a stun gun. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.
