Driving while intoxicated: July 2 — On the morning of this Saturday, two U.S. Capitol Police officers were conducting a traffic stop near Stanton Park (Massachusetts Avenue and 4th Street NE) when a separate vehicle approached to ask for directions. An officer detected an odor of alcohol, and when tested, the suspect demonstrated numerous signs of impairment. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.

 Assault with a deadly weapon: Sept. 28 — On the afternoon of this Wednesday, a U.S. Capitol Police officer responded to a report of a robbery two blocks west of the Supreme Court building. Upon arrival, the officer observed a second Capitol Police officer and a U.S. Supreme Court police officer detaining a suspect. Further investigation revealed that no robbery had taken place, but the suspect was accused of assaulting a complainant with a screwdriver. The suspect was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. 

{mosads} Driving under the influence: Sept. 29 — Early on the morning of this Thursday, a Capitol Police officer responded to a radio report of three men walking toward the Capitol. The men had left a vehicle parked in the middle of Independence Avenue SE. When the officer approached the men and asked for identification, one of them refused, immediately lying face down on the ground and spreading his arms. The officer observed a set of car keys in the suspect’s possession. The man confirmed that he was the operator of the vehicle. A subsequent search of the suspect at police headquarters yielded a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana.

 Driving under the influence: Oct. 2 — On the morning of this Sunday, a Capitol Police officer observed a vehicle traveling eastbound through an intersection near Union Station. The suspect drove through a red traffic signal and nearly collided with the officer’s cruiser on the passenger side. The suspect continued driving eastbound in the westbound lanes around a traffic circle, before crossing over the median and striking a traffic signal. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol emanating from the suspect’s breath. The suspect’s speech was also slurred. The officer asked the suspect to exit the vehicle, at which time the suspect nearly collapsed. The suspect was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters.

Possession of an open container of alcohol: Oct. 8 — Early on the morning of this Saturday, a Capitol Police officer responded to a radio call of a suspect harassing a security guard near the Japanese American Memorial. The suspect was found sleeping on a bench outside an office building and was asked several times to leave the area. The suspect refused to obey, and a strong odor of alcohol emanated from the person’s breath. After becoming aggressive with the officer, the suspect was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters.

Driving while intoxicated: Oct. 8 — On the same morning of this Saturday, also near the Japanese American Memorial, a Capitol Police officer observed a scooter traveling eastbound with no lights on and swerving. The suspect demonstrated numerous signs of impairment and was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing.

Fleeing from a police officer: Oct. 8 — On the morning of this Saturday, a Capitol Police officer observed a vehicle with a flat front-passenger-side tire traveling westbound near the Japanese American Memorial. The officer stopped the vehicle, and a suspect exited. At the direction of the officer, the suspect got back in the vehicle but then fled the scene, driving the vehicle at a high rate of speed. A witness later flagged down a second Capitol Police officer regarding a vehicle matching that description. The second officer followed marks on the road to an area near Nationals Park and found the vehicle parked in front of a residence. The officer observed a suspect matching the description in front of the residence. The first officer confirmed that the suspect was the same person who had earlier fled the scene. A background check revealed the vehicle was not registered in Washington, Maryland or Virginia. The suspect was also found to have a suspended license in Maryland and no valid license in Washington. The suspect was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where the person refused two breath-sample tests.

 Assault on an officer: Oct. 9 — On the evening of this Sunday, a Capitol Police officer was conducting a search of a suspect who had been arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department near Lower Senate Park. During the search, the suspect became uncooperative and attempted to scratch and strike the officer in the face. The suspect also pushed the officer against a wall and repeatedly kicked the officer in the legs. Later, in a holding room, the suspect repeatedly spit on the walls and windows, and banged on the bench and door for several minutes. The suspect was later transported to the Metropolitan Police Department for processing.

 Destruction of property: Oct. 16 — On the morning of this Sunday, two Capitol Police officers observed a suspect kick and cause damage to a vehicle near Union Station. The driver of the vehicle observed the damage and asked to press charges. A strong odor of alcohol was detected on the suspect’s breath. The suspect was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters.

 Disorderly conduct: Oct. 18 — On the morning of this Tuesday, a Capitol Police officer observed a suspect urinating between two bushes at the House plaza of the Capitol building. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.
