Capitol Police files

A sexual assault took place at the south door of the U.S. Capitol Building late last month, according to a report from the U.S. Capitol Police.

A woman reported being assaulted at about 5 a.m. on June 28 on an elevator on the House side of the Capitol building.

The suspect pushed the woman and forced her into the elevator with his bare hands.

{mosads}He grabbed her around the neck and pulled down his pants, exposing himself. The woman had bruises on her left elbow and knee, according to the report.

He was indentified by the woman and arrested by Capitol Police.

No charges were filed against the suspect, according to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia’s office.

The incident is striking given its unusual nature — it’s rare for a sexual assault to occur inside the heavily protected Capitol building.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle with additional charges of possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia — July 5 — A U.S. Capitol Police officer received a license plate reader hit for a stolen vehicle at the intersection of North Capitol and H streets Northwest.  Police stopped the car. The suspect exited the vehicle with a glass pipe, consistent with one used to smoke crack cocaine, which fell to the ground. The suspect was placed under arrest. A search revealed a small baggie in the suspect’s front pocket containing a white powdery substance. The officer also saw an opened beer can in the middle of the console of the vehicle. A background check revealed the suspect had a bench warrant in D.C. for failure to appear. The suspect was transported to police headquarters for processing.

No valid permit — July 5 — An officer saw a scooter approach the intersection of Delaware Ave. and D St., Northeast during a solid red light, fail to come to a complete stop, turn right into the westbound lane of D St., Northeast and accelerate quickly. The scooter then went through a red light in the intersection of North Capitol St. and Louisiana Ave., Northeast The officer stopped the vehicle, and a background check revealed the suspect did not have a valid driver’s license in the district. The scooter had no tags, and the VIN number was filed off. The suspect was placed under arrest and processed at police headquarters.

Driving under the influence and possession of cocaine — July 5 — An officer observed a vehicle on Third St. traveling with no rear lights. The officer initiated a traffic stop and, upon approaching the vehicle, detected an alcoholic odor emitting from the suspect’s car and person. Standard field sobriety tests were conducted and, due to the numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. While processing the suspect, another officer found a Ziploc baggie containing a white powdery substance, which tested positive for cocaine.

Possession of marijuana — July 4 — An officer observed three females smoking at Virginia Ave. and 3rd St. Southeast. An officer saw the first suspect pass a hand-rolled cigarette to the second suspect. As the officer left his vehicle, the second suspect dropped the hand-rolled cigarette, which was still burning and had the odor of burnt marijuana. The officer obtained the ages of the three suspects and learned that the first suspect was a juvenile, and the third suspect had purchased the hand-rolled cigarette. The contents of the cigarette tested positive for THC. Suspect one was arrested and transported to juvenile processing. Suspects two and three were arrested and processed at police headquarters.

Fugitive from justice — July 3 — An officer was stopped at the intersection of Third St., Northwest, and Pennsylvania Ave., Northwest, to check on a disorderly suspect. A background check revealed an active warrant from Valley County, Idaho. The warrant was confirmed, and the suspect was deemed extraditable. The suspect was placed under arrest and processed at police headquarters.

Driving under the influence — July 3 — An officer observed the suspect’s vehicle drive through a solid red light at South Capitol St. and Virginia Ave., Southwest. A traffic stop was conducted and, upon approach, a second officer detected an odor of alcohol emitting from the suspect’s breath. Standard field sobriety tests were conducted and, due to numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was placed under arrest and processed at police headquarters.

Carrying a pistol without a license — July 2 — An officer responded to an accident on Louisiana Ave., Northeast. Upon approach, the officer observed a holstered handgun in plain view within the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Threats to injure — June 28 — An officer observed a woman matching a warning description outside the Library of Congress Jefferson Building. When attempting to stop the suspect and ask for identification, she was uncooperative and threatened physical harm. A background check revealed a bench warrant out in D.C. 

The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.
