Possession of a prohibited weapon: Jan. 25 — Shortly after 9 p.m., a U.S. Capitol Police officer noticed a vehicle swerve out of its traffic lane as it came out of Union Station’s Columbus Circle and headed east on Massachusetts Avenue. The officer stopped the car, and the 25-year-old male driver told the officer that he had a Glock BB “toy” pistol in the trunk of the car. Upon further investigation, the officer also found a pair of gold metal knuckles and a switchblade in the man’s possession. The man was arrested on misdemeanor charges and transported to Capitol Police headquarters for processing.

Theft: Feb. 1 — At around 7 a.m., a staff assistant for Rep. Connie Mack (R-Fla.) observed a 31-year-old man pick up a copy of The Washington Post newspaper that had been delivered to the front door of the congressman’s first-floor office in the Cannon House Office Building. The staffer notified a nearby Capitol Police officer. The officer approached the man, who had a beard and was wearing a black hat, a black jacket and tan pants. The officer questioned the man, who was still holding the newspaper in his right hand. After revealing that he had not paid the 75 cents for the paper and had taken it without permission, the man was placed under arrest and transported to Capitol Police headquarters for processing.

{mosads}• Possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, driving without a valid license: Feb. 12 — At close to midnight, a Capitol Police officer on patrol noticed a man asleep behind the wheel of a car parked on Constitution Avenue, a block away from the Senate Hart Office Building. The officer approached the car and knocked several times to awaken the man. A background check of the 23-year-old man’s name revealed that he did not have a valid motor vehicle license. The officer also detected the smell of alcohol on the man’s breath and conducted a Standard Field Sobriety Test, which the man failed. The man was being placed under arrest, and the officer conducted a standard search of the man’s clothing and found a small plastic bag of a green leafy substance, which later tested positive for marijuana. The man was arrested and transported to Capitol Police headquarters for processing.

Assault with a deadly weapon: Feb. 16 — A little after 4:30 p.m., as the rest of the city was beginning to dig out from heavy snowfall, a Capitol Police officer was flagged down by a Metrobus driver at an intersection near the Ford House Office Building. The bus driver told the police officer that a passenger had threatened to cut him with a knife. The officer questioned the suspect, and a body search revealed that he was in possession of a concealed knife. The suspect was placed under arrest, charged with a felony and transported to Capitol Police headquarters for processing.
