Nudists storm Capitol Hill (fully clothed)

It’s that time of year again. The air is warm, the sun is shining and the nudists are on Capitol Hill.

American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) officials will be visiting congressional offices this week, and they’ll be giving out goodies.

Among the treats, said Executive Director Erich Schuttauf, are SPF 15 sunscreen to protect sensitive spots from harsh rays, tubes of ChapStick with sunscreen and, inexplicably, emery boards.

{mosads}“We’re planning to visit 130 to 150 lawmakers this week,” Schuttauf told ITK, “and nearly everyone is receptive, because our camps bring business to their districts.”

The group’s legislative goal this year is to be exempted from Rep. Bart Stupak’s (D-Mich.) bill that would add double-digit surcharges to credit card transactions for adult products and services that don’t sufficiently block minors from accessing them.

Under current laws, nudist camps, memberships and products are often lumped in with seedier adult entertainment online, something AANR strongly opposes. “We’re grandparents, families and community members,” said Schuttauf, “and we’re engaged in family friendly, wholesome activities.”

AANR members are hoping for a meeting with Stupak this week. Stupak’s office declined to comment on the prospect of a meeting with nudists, although a spokeswoman said he’ll be in Louisiana for the first part of the week.
