Rep. Bart Stupak wants to see the nudists
Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) wants to know where the nudists are.
The American Association of Nude Recreation (AANR) is visiting Capitol Hill this week, and one of Stupak’s bills is on its legislative agenda. But the group’s members keep missing Stupak.
{mosads}The lawmaker was in Louisiana on Monday when the nudists came to his office. They also stopped by early Tuesday morning, when he was on his way back to D.C. Since then, he told ITK, “I haven’t noticed them, and you’d certainly think I would!”
Stupak said he learned the nudists were in town from an ITK item earlier in the week, and that AANR members were handing out sunscreen, ChapStick and emery boards on Capitol Hill.
“There’s one thing, though, that I’m totally stumped about,” he said. “I mean, I get where they put the sunscreen and the lip balm, but seriously, the emery boards have me totally confused!”
Of the legislation in question, which strengthens regulation of adult products sold online, Stupak said, “My bill doesn’t affect nudists, or rudists, or foodists. It just prevents kids from getting debit cards they can use online to buy dangerous things.”
At press time, the nudists had yet to meet with Stupak, but according to Executive Director Erich Schuttauf, they are in touch with Stupak’s staff, and were hoping to make their case late Wednesday.
Schuttauf told ITK he looked forward to meeting the retiring congressman, and that he hoped Stupak could see the seriousness, and a little humor, in the nudists’ situation.
“A guy with a sense of humor, who’s not in a fight for reelection, is just what we need,” he joked.
