Chuck Grassley, 76, competes in two races this weekend

While most Americans were enjoying the last few lazy days of summer,
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) was getting a move on — literally, by
competing in two different races over Labor Day weekend.

{mosads}The lawmaker, who turns a youthful 77 next week, hit the pavement first on Saturday for a walk-a-thon organized by Hope Ministries to help the homeless.

Fewer than 48 hours later, he laced up Monday morning for the 33rd annual Dubuque Benefit Classic race, where he ran in a 5k. In a tweet after the race, Grassley wrote, “Don’t ask about my time but [I] finish[ed] one min aftr my 40yr old staffer.”

Grassley gets up at 5 a.m. nearly every morning and runs four miles, according to his spokeswoman.

The staffer in question, regional director Penny Vacek, confirmed that the five-term senator was on her tail the entire time.
