Capito’s dad recovering from heart disease

Former West Virginia Gov. Arch Moore (R) is recovering at home
following hospitalization for heart disease earlier this summer, said
his daughter, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.).

{mosads}On Tuesday, Capito told MetroNews Talkline radio that Moore’s “heart gave him a wake-up call three or four weeks ago.”

Moore, 87, served as West Virginia’s governor from 1969-1977 and 1985-1989. From 1957-1969, he represented the state’s 1st district in the House.

Capito said her dad was likely “pushing himself a lot harder than someone should have” and that he “maybe ignored a few warning signs,” but she said he did not require heart surgery.

As part of his recovery, Moore has given up holding his daily office hours. But his daughter said getting the former lawmaker to slow down is “a bit of a battle.”

A particular sticking point has been whether Moore is well enough to climb the 27 steps to his office, Capito said. “We’re trying to tell dad, ‘One step at a time,’ but you can imagine trying to tell that to him.”
