Lady Gaga: Call ‘Harry Reid’

Lady Gaga wants you to phone Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.)
and urge him to schedule a vote on “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” So much so,
in fact, that she made it a cornerstone of her appearances this past
week.

{mosads}She performed at the Verizon Center in Washington last Tuesday and met before the show with service members affected by the policy.

Then, she showed up at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night with four members of the armed forces, all in dress uniform, who have been forced to leave the service under DADT, which forbids openly gay soldiers from serving in the U.S. military.

Later that night, during an appearance on “Ellen,” Lady Gaga explained her choice of escorts, displaying a grasp of the politics around the issue that many stars couldn’t claim to have.

“We’re excited at this moment because in the House of Representatives, ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ was just overturned,” she said.

“If we call Harry Reid in the Senate and tell him to schedule the vote to repeal ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ this month, then we can get the bill to the president to sign.”

It’s unlikely, however, that the bill will hit the Senate floor before the elections.
