Actor Alec Baldwin mulls bid for congress

Less than a month after the TV and movie star told ITK that rumors of a future foray into politics were “bulls–t,” Baldwin changed his tune this week during an interview with CNN.

“[Entering politics is] something that I’m very, very interested in,” he told “Parker Spitzer” host Eliot Spitzer.

{mosads}Baldwin says the problem is that “to leave what I’m doing now would be extremely painful.”

The 51-year-old actor has won multiple Emmys for his portrayal of Jack Donaghy, a conservative-leaning network executive, on NBC’s “30 Rock.” His contract with the show does not expire until 2012.

Baldwin notes, “I’ve had people approach me about running for jobs and moving to other locations and it’s been a very difficult decision for me because I am a New Yorker.”

He says the problem with running for office from New York is “there’s a lot of ambition and there’s a lot of entitlement.”

Baldwin is a huge political contributor to the Democratic Party, donating tens of thousands of dollars over the last decade. 

Baldwin lives in the district of Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.), who barely won his reelection bid in November. A primary challenge is unlikely: Baldwin has made political contributions to the New York lawmaker.
