Harkin to raise cash at Lady Gaga show
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) is taking a page out of the playbook of one of his colleagues, Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and raising some dough next month at a Lady Gaga concert.
According to an extra-jazzy invitation, with no fewer than 17 unique disco balls on it, guests can attend the Feb. 24 Lady Gaga show at the Verizon Center as VIPs with Harkin for the bargain price of $1,000 per person for individuals, $1,500 each for political action committees.
{mosads}Lautenberg got a lot of attention last September when he hosted a private room at a Lady Gaga show. But the controversial pop star is even more politically charged today than she was last fall: This past December, Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, led a group of celebrities calling for the repeal of the Pentagon’s “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. She even went so far as to exchange tweets with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on the issue.
