Hoyer loves his new view

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) has a great view out the windows of his new office, and he knows just whom to thank: Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).

“I love my new offices!” Hoyer recently told ITK, prompting the observation that “[House Speaker] John Boehner must like [Hoyer] very much.”

{mosads}Hoyer smiled knowingly, “And I like him very much, too.”

The changing of the House majority meant that Hoyer was forced to move out of his majority leader’s offices, but he didn’t move in to former Minority Whip Eric Cantor’s (R-Va.) old office at the back of the third floor of the Capitol building.

Instead, Hoyer scored a beautiful set of rooms on the first floor that were formerly occupied by the House Appropriations Committee, and which offer sweeping views of the National Mall and Washington Monument. The Appropriations Committee moved to Cantor’s old smaller third-floor rooms, with a less majestic view.

Cantor, meanwhile, is the new majority leader and moved up in office space.

A spokeswoman for Hoyer reminded ITK that up until the late 1990s, the minority whip’s office was located in the suite of rooms that Hoyer now occupies.

“Mr. Hoyer is appreciative to Speaker Boehner and Leader [Nancy] Pelosi [D-Calif.] for their work in allocating office space,” she said.
