First lady on 2012: ‘I will do whatever I’m asked to do’
Michelle Obama, who’s promoting the one-year anniversary of her “Let’s Move” initiative, said she would relish the opportunity to get out on the campaign trail for the grind required to win another term for the president.
“I will do whatever I’m asked to do,” she said on NBC’s “Today” show.
{mosads}The first lady has spoken previously of the active role she would likely play in reelection, perhaps a testament to the strong draw she enjoys with female voters, a key voting bloc.
“When it’s time to get out on the road and talk to the American people, it’s something I enjoy doing,” she said.
That effort will begin in earnest over the next few months, as the president’s reelection campaign formally launches in Chicago, the first lady’s hometown, and Republicans begin jumping into the race.
The first lady has seemed to do a little bit of campaigning already, urging even voters who are a bit disillusioned and out of work to vote for her husband in 2012.
“Yes, absolutely,” she said when asked if the unemployed should vote for President Obama for reelection. “Because we’re seeing some significant improvements in the economy.”
