Biden avoids felons during visit to deli

The last time a national political figure visited Slyman’s deli in
Cleveland, it didn’t go well.

The year was 2007, and then-President George W. Bush stopped in for one of the restaurant’s famous corned beef sandwiches.

{mosads}Bush posed for photos with patrons, notably one Jabra Deir, who, incidentally, was fresh off a stint in federal prison for assaulting an officer.

The Secret Service was embarrassed, and the story was big.

But political karma didn’t stop Vice President Joe Biden from lunching, and schmoozing, at Slyman’s on Tuesday, accompanied by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).

No stranger to embarrassing moments, Biden boldly complimented employee Sam Slyman on his muscles while patting Slyman’s shoulder, and later told workers, “I’m just hangin’ out, man.”

As he worked the room with press in tow, Biden approached two guys at a corner table for the obligatory handshake and chit-chat. “You have no way out,” Biden joked as he moved closer.

Biden and Brown then sat down at a table, presumably to order lunch.

The pair later moved on to lunch No. 2, a fundraiser for Brown in a swanky Cleveland restaurant.
