Willow Smith to play the White House
What has 72 wooden spoons, 30,000 kids and Willow Smith on the
microphone?
You guessed it — the 2011 White House Easter Egg Roll, which is being held on April 25.
{mosads}Smith, the ’tween-aged daughter of actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, will “whip her hair back and forth” on the main stage along with likes of John Lithgow, DJ Willy Wow and “Sesame Street” characters.
Actress Geena Davis, talk-show host Kelly Ripa and French chef Jacques Pépin will also make appearances.
The daylong to-do is the largest single event hosted at the White House each year, and pulling it off requires a small army of volunteers and thousands of hours of prep time.
On Tuesday the White House announced that the hours of the Easter Egg Roll this year have been extended, running from 7:30 a.m. to 6:20 p.m.
Guests will be divided into groups of 6,000, with each group allowed to stay on the South Lawn for two hours.
For those not invited to hunt for environmentally friendly eggs this year, all this can mean only one thing: Do whatever you can to avoid 16th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW next Monday, where a continuous stream of visitors is sure to snarl traffic and sidewalks.
