The anti-Weiners: Lawmakers celebrate anniversaries

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s (D-N.Y.) marriage ran into trouble from the get-go, but his was the exception, not the norm, on Capitol Hill.

Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) and his wife just celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary. But during a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee meeting, Chabot noted that work prevented them from being together on their special day. 

{mosads}Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.) congratulated Chabot, adding, “My wife and I celebrated our 44th three weeks ago and she reminded me the only reason we lasted that long … we’ve only been together six …  Tough business we’re in.”

Lawmakers aren’t the only ones who find difficulty in balancing their professional and personal lives.

During his Senate confirmation hearing last week, Gen. David Petraeus was urged to enjoy his short break in between his duties as head of U.S. forces in Afghanistan and CIA director. 

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) recommended taking his wife, Holly, out to dinner.

 Petraeus responded, “Thank you. It’s a novel idea.”

Earlier in the hearing, senators and Petraeus gave several shout-outs to Holly.

“I have been blessed to have had her in my corner for some 37 years and 23 moves,” Petraeus said.
