Senators send out not-so-sweet Halloween card

Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) are sending out a spooky card this Halloween that might scare the bejeezus out of supporters of the U.S. sugar program.

The postcard features creepy bats flying across a full moon with the message, “The U.S. Sugar Program: a trick on consumers and a treat for the sugar industry.”

{mosads}An attached note meant to win some sweet-toothed support asks fellow lawmakers to co-sponsor the Stop Unfair Giveaway and Restrictions (that’s SUGAR, get it?) Act, introduced by the two senators back in January, which they contend would save consumers billions of dollars.

Kirk is the holder of the “candy desk” in the Senate chamber, which is stocked chock-full of sugary treats.

No word on what Shaheen and Kirk will be offering up to sugar-crazed trick-or-treaters this year.
