Sen. Lieberman’s Hanukkah wish list includes Glenn Beck’s new book
Looks as if Glenn Beck and Sen. Joe Lieberman might be budding bosom book buddies.
We asked the Connecticut independent what gift he’s hoping for this Hanukkah. After singing a commendable rendition of the chorus of “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth” (and pointing out that he’s equipped with those two vital chompers), Lieberman said, “I don’t want to be too schmaltzy, if I may use the term to go with Hanukkah — just the company of my family.”
{mosads}But when pressed to divulge some material goods he plans to put on his holiday wish list, he paused before saying with a smile, “Well, actually, this is not a political statement. I’m fascinated in Glenn Beck’s new book about George Washington. I noticed it was on the best-seller list.”
The conservative radio show host’s latest tome, “Being George Washington: The Indispensable Man, As You’ve Never Seen Him,” has held steady near the top of The New York Times best-seller list since it was released late last month.
After giving word to Beck of the senator’s Hanukkah pick, the literary love-fest really kicked into high gear.
“I’ve always thought that Sen. Lieberman was brilliant, but his choice in holiday gifts confirms it. I just wish more of our politicians would follow his lead and be willing to look toward our Founders for guidance on how to address the issues we face today,” Beck told ITK in an email.
The unlikely duo has a long history. Lieberman has said that he met the former Fox News host more than 10 years ago when Beck was a morning radio personality in New Haven, Conn.
The lawmaker, who announced earlier this year that he won’t be seeking a fifth term in 2012, even penned a letter of recommendation for Beck to Yale University. And while he pulled out of Beck’s August “Restoring Courage” rally in Israel, citing a “family commitment,” Lieberman said he supported the event.
Perhaps these two bookworms should arrange for a swap of some sort. Beck also disclosed what he’s asking Santa for this year: “Coincidentally, I am hoping to get something for Christmas that Sen. Lieberman is very familiar with: the gift of rest.”
Lieberman released his book, “The Gift of Rest: Rediscovering the Beauty of the Sabbath,” in August.
