Sen. Rubio doesn’t just dig rap, also a fan of Jon Secada
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has previously professed his love of rap music, but the lawmaker says he has a special connection to a singer with a different sort of sound: ’90s pop sensation Jon Secada is a neighbor of his wife’s mom.
“He’s from Miami. He lives literally, like, four blocks away from my mother-in-law,” Rubio explained Tuesday.
{mosads}That’s not the only familial link the junior senator says he has to the Cuban-American entertainer: “Actually, his mom is a voter in my former legislative district.”
Secada, whose song “Just Another Day” climbed the Billboard charts in 1991, was in Washington on Wednesday to raise awareness of chronic hepatitis C. His father recently died from complications associated with the disease.
The songwriter, 49, who has written hits for Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin, planned to meet with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, along with Rubio, during his visit.
Although the soulful singer’s tunes might be a bit different from the gangsta rap Rubio has admitted in the past to being a fan of, the potential VP candidate said of Secada: “He’s great. He’s got a great voice.”
