Some Young Guns are not so young

The House Republican campaign committee announced its first round of “Young Guns” late last week, but these guys don’t exactly remind many of the gunslingers in the 1988 feature film.

While the 10 GOP House challengers who have raised enough money to be admitted into the exclusive campaign coaching program are all “gunning” for seats in Congress, it’s a bit of a stretch to call them young.

{mosads}The eldest Young Gun, former Rep. Steve Pearce, who is running in New Mexico’s 2nd district, is 62.

Former Rep. Steve Chabot, a candidate in Ohio’s 1st district, just turned 57.

And Pat Meehan, running for Rep. Joe Sestak’s (D-Pa.) open seat, is 54.

The youngest Young Gun is Martha Roby, 33, a candidate in Alabama’s 2nd district, and the only Young Gun under 40.

The average age of all 10 candidates is 49 years. But take Roby out of the equation and the average hops up to 52.
