For Pelosi, healthcare vote was a family affair
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) scored the biggest victory of her
political career on Sunday night. And she had plenty of family there to
see it happen.
{mosads}Pelosi’s husband, Paul, her two daughters, Nancy Prowda and Alexandra Pelosi, and her son-in-law, Michiel Vos, were all sitting in the front row of the reserved Speakers Gallery box. And while the Speaker only appeared on the House floor during the latter portion of the evening, her political cheering section stayed glued to the debate for more than four hours.
Thankfully, they knew well enough not to actually cheer, unlike two spectators earlier in the day who shouted slogans from the House gallery. Both are now facing misdemeanor charges of disrupting Congress.
And while Pelosi didn’t do any celebrating in the wee hours, she told ITK on Monday that she celebrated her win by having lunch with her grandchildren, who are too young to have been able to fully appreciate the legislative debate.
The Pelosis weren’t the only family members sitting in the VIP section for the historic votes: Debbie Dingell, wife of the dean of the House Democrats, Rep. John Dingell (Mich.), was seated a few seats away from the Pelosis, as was Dr. Zeke Emanuel, the brother of former Rep.-turned-White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
