Bachmann among lawmakers to sign Mother’s Day cards for home-bound moms

Rep. Michele Bachmann knows something about Mother’s Day: The Minnesota Republican has been a mom to 28 kids over the years, five biological children and 23 foster kids.

On Tuesday, she’s planning to celebrate the upcoming holiday by reaching out to a few moms.

{mosads}Bachmann is one of more than a dozen lawmakers scheduled to speak at a Mother’s Day card-signing event on Capitol Hill, organized by Meals on Wheels of America, in honor of Sunday’s holiday.

“These mothers have blessed their families with sacrificial, loving and tireless service, and it’s a privilege to give them a small portion of the gratitude and praise they deserve,” Bachmann told ITK on Monday.

“What a joy it would be if this card-signing helped encourage people all across the country to seek out other home-bound moms and honor them, not only on Mother’s Day, but all year round.”

Lawmakers will sign cards in the Cannon House Office Building’s Caucus Room 345, and the cards will be delivered to home-bound seniors who rely on Meals on Wheels to deliver food to them.

The event will last from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., but given how many lawmakers are lined up to speak, two hours seems like a conservative estimate.

Along with Bachmann, a spokesman for Meals on Wheels told ITK that remarks are expected from Reps. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.), Diane Black (R-Tenn.), André Carson (D-Ind.), David Cicilline (D-R.I.), Mark Critz (D-Pa.), Frank Guinta (R-N.H.), Wally Herger (R-Calif.), Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas), David Loebsack (D-Iowa), Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.), Dave Reichert (R-Wash.), Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) and Steve Stivers (R-Ohio).

Apparently, no amount of praise is too much when it comes to dear old Mom.
