Murphy has some very stylish support
Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.) received $4,800 this past election cycle from Gucci, one of the world’s most exclusive, and expensive, designer brands. According to OpenSecrets.org, Gucci was the 49th largest contributor (along with 15 other companies also ranked 49th) to Murphy’s campaign in 2009-2010.
{mosads}But despite this high-fashion donor, few would accuse Murphy of being one of the more dapper members of Congress: He doesn’t sport Rep. Earl Blumenauer’s (D-Ore.) bowties or Rep. Charles Rangel’s (D-N.Y.) carefully coordinated cravats and pocket squares.
In fact, Murphy wore jeans on the House floor (a no-no, by House rules) during the late-night healthcare reform vote last month.
Which begs the question, were they Gucci jeans?
Asked about the donation, Murphy told ITK, “If a guy from a rowhouse in Northeast Philly and Gucci can agree on something, I’ve got to think there’s hope for Congress yet.”
