Lamar Smith staffer marries Kerri Strug
Robert Fischer, a legislative assistant to Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), married Olympic gold-medal gymnast Kerri Strug on Sunday in Tucson, Ariz. Fischer and Strug are both 32, and they’d been dating for two years.
Strug works for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, where she’s a project manager. In 1996, she achieved national stardom as part of the gold medal-winning U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the Atlanta Olympic Games.
{mosads}Strug and Fischer got engaged last November, and Strug told ITK this winter that she knew immediately what kind of wedding she wanted. Judging by the splashy New York Times announcement this weekend, the bride got just what she wanted.
The ceremony and reception were both held at the picturesque Skyline Country Club, which is where Strug’s older sister was married. She also hired the same band, and the same rabbi her sister used.
ITK congratulates Fischer and Strug, who, incidentally, make an amazingly cute couple.
