Jodie the waitress unfazed by Obama surprise visit
There’s at least one person in America who isn’t at all impressed by the prospect of meeting President Barack Obama. Her name is Jodie, and she’s a waitress at Peggy Sue’s Cafe in Monroe City, Mo.
{mosads}Obama made an unexpected stop at the cafe on Wednesday before visiting an ethanol plant. Ten diners were seated at two tables when he arrived.
Jodie handed the president a menu. “I don’t think you … have cheeseburgers?” he said, perusing the options.
“Yes, we do,” Jodie countered plainly.
She took down Obama’s order — a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and mustard (no ketchup) and fries — as though he were someone who stopped in every other day. It was a midday meal that definitely wouldn’t make the cut over at first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” childhood obesity prevention initiative.
Asked what it was like to wait on one of the planet’s most powerful people, Jodie answered with the ultimate Midwestern reserve.
“I take orders every day. He ordered like a normal person.”
Well, thank goodness for that.
After lunch, the president stopped at the LaRue Insurance Agency, then walked a rope line and kissed some babies. According to reports, the babies had the same reaction to Obama as Jodie the waitress did, which is to say, little to none. The parents, on the other hand, were beside themselves with excitement.
