Dems raffle off dinner with Obama and Pelosi
It’s an evening many Democrats can only dream of. And if you sign up at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) website anytime between now and Monday, you could find yourself dining privately with President Barack Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Pelosi announced the raffle in a fundraising letter for the DCCC that went out on Wednesday. “Since America’s progress would not be possible without Grassroots Democrats like you, I wanted to give you and a guest the opportunity to have dinner with myself and President Obama the evening of May 13th in New York City,” she wrote.
{mosads}The winner will be allowed to bring one guest, and according to contest rules, winners must be U.S. citizens and not registered lobbyists.
No word on where the dinner will take place, but judging by the declared value of the meal, chances are it won’t be Le Cirque. In fact, it could be more like Denny’s.
The contest places the value of dinner for four in New York City at $200. And as anyone who’s ever eaten out in the Big Apple knows, 50 bucks a person will get you an entree and a glass of wine, but little else.
Obama took first lady Michelle out to dinner last year at Blue Hill Restaurant, an organic spot in the West Village. Based on the menu, the total price of an appetizer, entree (with veggie) and dessert at Blue Hill? Almost $70 per person. Tack on tax, tip and beverages, and you’re in the triple digits in no time.
