Oscar de la Renta and Roberto Cavalli are the duds of choice at Laura Bush book party

Former first lady Laura Bush and her daughter, Jenna Bush Hager,
sported their favorite designer, Oscar de la Renta, while Rima
al-Sabah, the glamorous wife of Kuwaiti Ambassador Salem al-Sabah, wore
a white Roberto Cavalli on Tuesday night at a jazzy party for Laura
Bush’s new memoir, Spoken from the Heart.

Laura Bush wore a gold pantsuit, while Jenna opted for a sequined skirt, black top and clutch to match.

{mosads}The reception was held at the gilded Chancery building of the Embassy of Kuwait, which is not the official embassy; nor is it where the al-Sabahs actually live. It’s where the couple entertains.

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who rarely goes out in official Washington, was there, dressed in black pumps and a matching skirt-and-sweater ensemble, with a black clutch to match. Arts patron Esther Coopersmith was in a hot-pink suit.

In keeping with the al-Sabahs’ reputation (and Kuwait’s influence), the party was bipartisan. ITK spotted Debbie Dingell, wife of Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.); Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.); Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.); Laura Bush’s book agent, Bob Barnett; Deputy Secretary of Defense Bill Lynn; Susan Sher, chief of staff to first lady Michelle Obama; Ambassador Melanne Verveer; and White House Chief of Protocol Capricia Marshall.

Once they finished with the seemingly never-ending receiving line, the al-Sabahs spent the rest of the night introducing guests to one another, one of the many reasons they’re known as some of the city’s most gracious hosts.

Jenna Hager was down from Baltimore with her husband, Henry Hager, and she’s spending the week on tour with her mom. Which might or might  not be good for Mrs. Bush.

On the “Today” show Wednesday, Jenna told host Meredith Vieira that her mom remakes her bed when she hasn’t made it properly at home. Seated next to her daughter, Mrs. Bush initially denied the claim, but after Jenna pressed, “The last time I was home, you remade my bed after I made it!” Laura Bush relented, and admitted to sprucing up the hospital corners in the guest bedroom.
