Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), 36th

If you weren’t yourself, which lawmaker would you prefer to be?
Rep. Harman: Ted Kennedy, who has my love and prayers right now.

What are the best and worst things about Washington?
Rep. Harman: The worst thing is the midnight sessions of Congress. The best thing is jogs in Rock Creek Park in the spring.

What did you want to be when you were young?
Rep. Harman: Member of Congress. I went to the Democratic Convention in 1960 to see John Kennedy receive the nomination. So that’s what I wanted to be — John Kennedy. Or maybe Jackie.

What has been your biggest political mistake?
Rep. Harman: Too many to count.

What vote would you like to re-do?
Rep. Harman: I would’ve liked to have reviewed accurate intelligence before I voted on the Iraq resolution.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Rep. Harman: Dulce de leche ice cream eaten in the carton in the dark next to the fridge, and I eat it all at once. It takes me about 20 minutes.

Finish this sentence: My favorite place in the whole world is …
Rep. Harman: Paris.

What household chore do you dislike?
Rep. Harman: The most? Again, it’s a long list. Laundry.

You didn’t ask me what my favorite thing to do is now — rolling around with my grandchildren, ages 2, 4 months and 3 months.
