A customer dropping off a package overnight Wednesday at a Florida post office was met by a massive surprise “roaming the lobby area.”
The Hernando County Sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that a person spotted a 7-foot alligator wandering around the Spring Hill office at 3:32 a.m. The office has automatic doors that permit entry at all hours, the sheriff said.
Authorities contacted a trapper who was able to safely remove the gator from the premises.

The alligator sighting marks the second time in two days that the creatures have made headlines. A 43-year-old woman was reportedly walking her dog in Palm Harbor, Fla., on Tuesday when she was attacked by a 7-foot, 7-inch alligator. The woman was taken to a hospital and treated for serious injuries to her leg.
Gene Vance, an area resident, described the event to Fox 13. Vance said he noticed a “lady kinda falling by the lake a little bit,” adding that “apparently she was walking her dog close to the edge of the lake.”
“It looked like the gator tried to get the dog but she grabbed the dog really quick, but in turn she slipped down and the gator got her leg just underneath the knee. … It was like one chomp and then he went back into the water,” Vance said.
A trapper eventually removed the alligator from the area.
