One of Napoléon Bonaparte’s famous black-felt bicorne hats is set to be auctioned off by Sotheby’s Paris in September.
“The continued presence of Napoleon in the arts, and the prevalence of his iconography are testament to the enduring fascination the world has for him,” says the Sotheby’s website. “Therefore, the Napoleon sale will offer a rich panorama of works, spanning two centuries of art history.”

The hat, bought in 1814 by politician Sir Michael Shaw-Stewart, was then passed down through generations of his family. It is estimated the hat will be auctioned off for anywhere between $473,546 and $710,319.
According to Sotheby’s, the auction will also include “art, sculpture, silverware, furniture, porcelain, jewelry, photography as well as memorabilia.”
The auction is set to take place from Sept. 15 to 22, 2021.
