Tony Bennett is retiring from performing live on doctor’s orders, it was announced on Thursday.
The announcement comes a week after the legendary singer, 95, performed two nights at Radio City Music Hall in New York City with his famed collaborator Lady Gaga to to rave reviews.
“There won’t be any additional concerts,” Danny Bennett, the singer’s son and manager, told Variety. “This was a hard decision for us to make, as he is a capable performer. This is, however, doctors’ orders. His continued health is the most important part of this, and when we heard the doctors — when Tony’s wife, Susan heard them — she said, ‘Absolutely not.’ ”

In February, Tony Bennett and his family revealed to AARP Magazine that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016.
“It’s not the singing aspect but, rather, the traveling,” Danny Bennett said. “He gets tired. … We don’t want him to fall on stage, for instance. We’re not worried about him being able to sing. We are worried, from a physical stand point … about human nature. Tony’s 95.”
However, though he will no longer be performing live, the singer still has projects in the works. Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga dropped their new single “I Get A Kick Out Of You” on Aug. 3, which will appear on their collaborative album “Love For Sale” due to be released on Oct. 1.
