Creators of the iconic, irreverent comedy cartoon “South Park” are reportedly purchasing a restaurant that periodically appears on their show after the eatery filed for Chapter 11 protection.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone unveiled their plan to purchase Casa Bonita in Lakewood, Colo., in an interview with Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, with Parker adding the duo “is excited to work with everybody and make the place we all want to make it,” according to The Associated Press (AP)

Polis quipped that the main area the legendary team should focus on is the food.

“The one area that we would all love to see an upgrade — and I think I speak on behalf of everybody who patronizes Casa Bonita — is the food could be a little better,” Polis said of the restaurant, which was closed to customers in 2020 after opening for business in 1974.

Parker did not disclose financial information, but he told The Hollywood Reporter the deal was made pending court approval. The purchase follows a reported $935 million deal the writers struck with Viacom CBS.

“This is a really exciting announcement not only for the community but for our entire state,” Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul said.

“There has been a lot of behind-the-scenes movement and certainly these deals can be challenging. Not only will this help save an iconic landmark in Lakewood, but it will also provide catalytic change for an emerging arts district. I want to thank Trey and Matt for their commitment to the community!”
