A Georgian art teacher who received “teacher of the year” was recorded using the [N-word] in class, and it had nothing to do with art.
Alexandrea Boyington, Alcovy High School’s teacher of the year for 2018-19 in Newton county, asked her students if it was OK for her to say the [N-word] if “I date a Black guy,” because “I got a [N-word],” The Guardian reported.

The mixed reaction from her students says it all. They collectively said “no,” with some laughing at the teacher while others made a loud awe sound.
Amid laughter and shock, many students replied: “No.” There is no information regarding when the video was taken or who recorded it, but “The teacher, Ms. Alexandrea Boyington, is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of our investigation,” Newton school officials said in a statement.
“There was no reason for her to say that,” senior Malik Montgomery told Fox 5 Atlanta. “When I saw the video, I was disappointed because as a teacher you are supposed to keep your profession and just keep your composure.”
“I think the board of education should do more, you know? Look more into it – investigate into it and [Boyington should] not just be suspended. You know, she should just lose her job,” he added.
Markevious Walton, a fellow student, believes that the N-word is a teachable word in a classroom setting, but in the context of how Boyinton used it, “It can go two different ways, that word right there, but you can’t just be saying that, especially in front of the students.”
According to the Atlanta Black Star, Boyington has not released a statement regarding the video.
The student body at AHS is mostly Black at 58 percent, according to Niche.
About 30 percent of the school is white students.
