Amazon announced Monday it is hiring 150,000 seasonal employees to cover the expected holiday rush.

The company’s hiring spree comes as employers attempt to fill millions of jobs across the country, using a variety of incentives. Last month, Amazon announced a wage hike with some jobs, including fulfillment and transportation, paying more than $18 per hour.

Starting pay for the seasonal openings will average $18 per hour, carrying a sign-on bonus of up to $3,000 and a possible $3 per hour bump depending on shifts and locations, the company said.

States with the most open roles include Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, and Indiana.

Other hiring initiatives recently undertaken by Amazon to woo workers include an offer to cover full college tuition payments for most its 750,000 hourly employees in the U.S beginning in January 2022.

The company said in a statement employees will be eligible for the tuition payments and other educational costs through its Career Choice program 90 days after employment. Amazon also plans to cover costs related to high school completion, GEDs and ESL proficiency certifications.

Funding will be offered for hundreds of institutions across the country.
