A Postal Service worker on Friday pleaded guilty to charges in connection to tracking and stealing packages he believed contained narcotics, authorities said in a statement.
Forty-four-year-old Shawn Herron pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute and one count of theft of mail by a Postal Service employee.
Herron, who served as a supervisor since 2005, tracked packages he believed contained the illegal substances and opened the packages instead of following policies.

“Specifically, Herron profiled priority parcels from Puerto Rico and West Coast states as well as parcels flagged by law enforcement as potentially containing illegal narcotics and then removed them from the mail stream,” a Department of Justice statement read.
Using Postal Service databases, Herron tracked packages and took them to his office upon their arrival. Herron then took substances, according to reports, which he intended to distribute.
Herron faces up to 25 years in prison, and he is expected to be sentenced Feb. 17.
