Star of the popular 2020 Netflix docuseries “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness,” Joseph Maldonado — known on the series as Joe Exotic — revelead on social media that he has prostate cancer.
“It is with a sad face that I have to tell you the doctors called me in today to break the news that my prostate biopsy came back with an aggressive cancer,” Maldonado wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday. “I am still waiting on the results from other tests as well.”
“Right now, I don’t want anyone’s pity,” he added.

Maldonado’s attorney, John Phillips, told CNN the reality star has been through a series of tests relating to a set of health issues.
“The PSA test is a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer. It was high. He finally obtained biopsies. They revealed cancer. Medical care is different in a prison environment and fewer options are available,” Phillips said.
Maldonado was sentenced in 2020 to more than 20 years in prison for trying to hire two men to kill animal rights activist Carole Baskin. Maldonado is awaiting resentencing after the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals vacated his initial sentence in July.
