Teen mistakenly shoots brother thinking he was a deer

A 12-year-old Michigan boy is in serious but stable condition after his brother accidentally shot him, mistaking him for a deer. 

The Kent County Sheriff’s office said in a statement on Tuesday it responded to a call regarding a hunting accident at a home in Solon Township Monday evening. 

According to the Sheriff’s office, a 17-year-old was in a hunting stand when his younger brother went out into a “wooded area” to call him in for dinner. The teen in the tree stand then mistakenly shot his brother with a rifle, thinking he was a deer. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to factor into the shooting, the office added.

The younger brother was transported to a hospital where he was in serious but stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon. 

Names of the individuals involved are being withheld due to their ages.
