A Colorado woman sprang into action when she looked out her window on Sunday and saw three children fall into an icy pond at her apartment complex.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said four children were playing on the pond’s ice around 3:30 p.m., when three fell through, according to ABC 7.
Twenty-three-year-old Dusti Talavera jumped into the pond and pulled two of them to safety, but she had difficulty extracting the third. A teenage boy, who is reportedly a relative of the victim, threw in a rope and pulled them from the water, according to Fox 31
“I was looking out my window and saw a couple of kids walking on the ice pond. A few seconds later, I saw them fall in,” Talavera said during a press conference Monday, according to the outlet. “Instinct was to go outside and help them.
“I just kind of put some shoes on and ran out. Nobody was really outside, so I mean, it was me. I just knew it was me that had to do it,” Talavera added.
Talavera said she was struggling to get the third victim from the icy waters when the 16-year-old boy threw them a rope.

First responders performed CPR on one of the victims, who was not breathing upon arrival. She was then transported to the hospital for treatment, according to the outlet. South Metro Fire Rescue assisted Arapahoe County deputies in the rescue.
“I have four boys. What [Dusti] did was amazing,” said Cory Sudden with South Metro Fire Rescue. “We were back at the fire station talking about how brave she was, how great the officers did. And gosh, I hope if this happened to one of mine, somebody like her was close by.”
