The fifth installment of the “Scream” horror franchise will feature its first queer character.

Actor Jasmin Savoy Brown, who currently portrays Taissa on the hit Showtime series “Yellowjackets” will be playing Mindy, a queer student, in the latest installment.

It’s a role that Brown, who identifies as queer, is excited for, hoping to make her character more three-dimensional than she feels previous portrayals of LGBTQ+ characters have been portrayed in the past.

“I’ve seen a lot of queer content where the character feels half-baked, and it’s such a rip-off and it makes me feel sad and used, as if we’re props,” Brown, 27, told NBC News. “I just wanted to really make sure we went fully in the opposite direction, had a completely lived-in person who isn’t defined by her queerness, but her queerness is celebrated even in the nuances.”

Brown, who came out to her family and friends when she was 21, said she hopes her portrayal and others like it will make LGBTQ+ content “more relatable for straight viewers.”

“I hope that people who maybe do or don’t have queer people in their life but don’t identify that way themselves, that they’ll listen to the podcast or see the movie and go, ‘Oh … gays, they’re just like us,'” Brown joked to NBC News. “You know what I mean? Like, nothing different here except we just have better fashion. That’s it.”
