An administrator of Indianapolis Public Schools is going viral on social media after saying he witnessed the school district teaching critical race theory (CRT), after the school system told parents that it doesn’t.
Tony Kinnett, science coach and administrator for Indianapolis Public Schools, posted a video on Twitter explaining why he thinks the district is lying to parents about not teaching CRT. He says, ”We tell our teachers to treat our students differently based on color. We tell our students every problem is a result of ‘white men’ and that everything Western civilization built is racist. Capitalism is a tool of white supremacy.”
Kinnett, who says he is in dozens of classrooms every week, argues that those are some of Kimberle Crenshaw’s main arguments in her book, “Critical Race Theory: The Key Writings that Formed the Movement.”
Kinnett went on to allege that lots of different classes, from math and science to history and art, include CRT in some form within their curriculum.
He ends the video by saying educators are lying to parents about not teaching their children CRT and that they should, “keep looking.”

Kinnett’s video represents how CRT became a hot button issue across the country, most recently in Virginia where Republican Glenn Youngkin campaigned on parents having a say in their children’s education that ultimately propelled him to a rare victory as Virginia’s next governor.
The National School Boards Association (NSBA) also got involved last month and issued a statement titled, “Understanding Critical Race Theory” where it asserted that CRT was being inaccurately used to describe discussions of racism in classroom instruction and that approaches to equity will be different for every school district.
The NSBA also said that certain topics, like social studies and history, “will at times require discussions about historic instances of racism.” That’s similar to what Kinnett asserted in his video when he said he witnessed CRT in lots of classes, including history.
The White House has also weighed in on the issue, with deputy press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre saying on Friday that Americans, “have to be honest with themselves about the history, which is good and the bad. And our kids should be proud to be Americans after learning that history.”
However, even the White House agreed that the discussion of teaching CRT in classrooms should be left to localities, as Jean-Pierre said in part, a school’s curriculum is, “rightly up to communities around the country — the parents, the school, the school board, the teachers and the administrators.”
The Indianapolis School District did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Kinnett’s allegations.
