In the aftermath of the deadly flash floods that have gripped central Tennessee, search and rescue crews have revised the standing fatality count to 21 dead, while an updated count of 20 people missing, the Tennessean reports.
The floods destroyed or severely damaged dozens of homes primarily in Humphreys County outside of Nashville. Search and rescue missions continue in both Humphreys and Waverly counties.
Given the treacherous conditions, county residents will be subjected to an 8 p.m. curfew.
Gov. Bill Lee (R) praised the first responder teams during a radio appearance, saying that emergency personnel had rallied from across the state to help residents affected by the flooding. He said nonprofit organizations have contributed substantially to recovery efforts alongside staff from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.
On Monday, Lee issued an emergency disaster declaration to allocate more resources to victims of the floods.
