“Our deepest condolences go out to Dalton’s family and to the Marines and staff of Echo Company. The cause of death is currently under investigation,” the post said.

Further details about Beals’ death have yet to be released.

Beals graduated from Pennsville Memorial High School in Pennsville, New Jersey in 2020.

Flags in New Jersey were lowered to half-staff at all state buildings and facilities in Beals’ memory.

“Private First Class Beals’ loss is a loss for our entire state and our nation. May he rest in peace and honor,” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) said in a tweet Wednesday

A GoFundMe page has been established to help Beals’ family with funeral expenses. He was set to graduate from training on June 18.

“The Crucible” is a 54-hour training exercise that “validates the physical, mental and moral training they’ve endured throughout recruit training.”

Recruits are only allowed a limited amount of food and sleep and the final stage of the training includes a 9-mile hike.
