Former California Sen. Barbara Boxer (D) of California was assaulted and robbed Monday near Oakland, according to a Twitter post from her account.
“Earlier today former Senator Barbara Boxer was assaulted in the Jack London square neighborhood of Oakland,” the tweet reads.
“The assailant pushed her back, stole her cell phone and jumped in a waiting car. She is thankful that she was not seriously injured,” the post said.
KPIX reports the robbery took place near the former Democratic lawmaker’s home around 1:15 p.m. while she was walking and talking on her new iPhone that she recently bought. Boxer told the outlet she didn’t see a weapon on the suspect who appeared to be younger than 18 years old.

“I said, ‘Why would you do this to a grandma?’ I was yelling at the kid as he was running with my phone,” she quipped in an interview with KPIX.
“He could care less. He got in the car. But I hope he has some guilt,” she said.
Police are still searching for a suspect and are offering up to $2,000 dollars for information leading to an arrest.
Boxer, 80, served as senator for California from 1993 to 2017 after previously serving as a representative for the state’s 6th congressional district.
