Kyle Rittenhouse’s mother accuses Biden of defaming her son

The mother of Kyle Rittenhouse on Thursday accused President Biden of defaming her son when he tweeted a video last year suggesting the teen was a white supremacist.

Rittenhouse, 18, is on trial in connection to the killing of Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and the wounding of Gaige Grosskreutz, 27, in Kenosha, Wis., in August 2020. The shootings occurred during protests that erupted in the city following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. Rittenhouse has pleaded not guilty to all charges and testified that he opened fire in self-defense. 

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Wendy Rittenhouse said then-presidential candidate Joe Biden wrongly implied her son was a white supremacist following the incident. 

“When I saw that, I was in shock. I was angry. President Biden don’t know my son whatsoever and he’s not a white supremacist. He’s not a racist. He did that for the votes,” she said.

“And I was so angry for a while at him and what he did to my son. He defamed him,” she said. 

Her comments stem from a September 2020 video Biden tweeted that included an image of Kyle Rittenhouse carrying the rifle he used from the night of the shooting. The video also included several images of right-wing protests. 

The post criticized then-President Trump for refusing to condemn white supremacists and militia groups during the recent presidential debate. 

“There’s no other way to put it: the President of the United States refused to disavow white supremacists on the debate stage last night,” Biden’s post read. 

Closing arguments in Rittenhouse’s case are set to begin Monday.
