- Twitter announced a ban on content denying the Holocaust.
- Facebook took the same stance earlier this week.
Twitter declared that it will follow its social media counterpart Facebook in banning posts and removing content that denies the Holocaust.
“We strongly condemn anti-Semitism, and hateful conduct has absolutely no place on our service,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement Wednesday, according to CNBC.
This comes as social media sites have received increased criticism surrounding their lack of content moderation. Facebook, in particular, saw years of pressure to combat Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism on its platform before finally taking action on Monday.
The Holocaust was the systemic persecution and murder of Jewish people by Nazi Germany, resulting in the deaths of approximately 6 million Jews in the 1940s.
The Twitter spokesperson also explained that the new policy runs parallel to its preexisting Hateful Conduct Policy that ban the promotion of violence based on discrimination.
“We also have a robust ‘glorification of violence’ policy in place and take action against content that glorifies or praises historical acts of violence and genocide, including the Holocaust,” the spokesperson told reporters.
