Lil Nas X is using a “baby registry” to raise money for numerous LGBTQ+ nonprofit organizations and other social causes ahead of the release of his new album, “Montero.”

The rapper and singer has been posting photos to social media of himself with a pregnant belly leading up to his album’s “due date” on Sept. 17.

SURPRISE! I can’t believe i’m finally announcing this. My little bundle of joy ‘MONTERO’ is due September 17, 2021,” he posted on Instagram.

On his “baby registry,” each organization or cause is aligned with a song from his upcoming album, such as the Transinclusive Group for “Montero.”

Additional causes are also listed, such as the Bail Project for his song “Industry Baby,” with the aim to end the cash bail system, which disproportionately affects Black Americans.

“Music is the way I fight for liberation,” Lil Nas X wrote. “It’s my act of resistance.”

Fans, however, have been split over Lil Nas X’s pregnancy imagery. While many support the causes the musician is highlighting, some have taken issue with his pregnancy photoshoots.

Some fans have called the photoshoots “transphobic and insensitive” as trans masculine people can get pregnant, while other fans have said they believe Lil Nas X is helping the cause by promoting awareness and visibility.

Lil Nas X, who has made headlines previously for his Twitter antics, has responded in kind to the criticisms with a series of jokes.

i’m up at 9am arguing with ppl on twitter, can’t find my prenatals, AND i’m getting cramps from this baby,” he tweeted Sept. 4. “this is not my day.”
