Following the death of Ahmaud Arbery, the black man gunned down in Georgia while jogging, many activists have called for an investigation into Arbery’s death as the hashtags #ArmaudArbery and #BlackLivesMatter trend on Twitter. One voice in particular, however, echoes especially loud.
NBA superstar LeBron James, who has a long history of social activism against racism in the U.S., took to his personal Twitter to make a statement about the slaying. In it, he tells the world that black Americans are “literally hunted” on a daily basis as they step outside the relative safety of their homes.
We’re literally hunted EVERYDAY/EVERYTIME we step foot outside the comfort of our homes! Can’t even go for a damn jog man! Like WTF man are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!? No man fr ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! I’m sorry Ahmaud(Rest In Paradise) and my prayers and blessings sent to the….. pic.twitter.com/r1PNxs8Vgn

The tweet features a photo of a smiling Arbery, with the text “I was murdered by an armed father and son who hunted me down and shot me as I jogged in a Georgia neighborhood. Neither of my killers have been charged” added below.
Arbery, then 25, was killed in February, but his death has recently circulated online with the release of video footage showing Arbery actively chased down while jogging on the street by three white men in a pickup truck and shot.

Gregory McMichael, a former police officer, and his son Travis, reportedly pursued Arbery because they believed he was responsible for a series of break-ins in a nearby area. McMichael later told investigators that Arbery had attacked Travis, and the two fought over the gun before Travis fatally shot Arbery.
S. Lee Merritt, the attorney representing Arbey’s family, said in a statement that “The series of events captured in this video confirm what all the evidence indicated prior to its release –– Mr. Arbery was pursued by three white men solely because of his race and [they] murdered him without justification.”
Local Georgia groups are reportedly planning to protest Arbery’s death at the Duval County courthouse tomorrow.
